Adelle called the authorities and explained that the men were trying to kill her; she didn’t mention that her dad had a gun. She told them that Lord Vile was around and saw them pull out guns, and aimed them at her and so he killed them because they were mortal and they had tried to kill a sorcerer. They had accepted her story and helped clean up the mess. After the bodies were taken away as well as the snow with blood in it, Adelle went to get her family. She told her dad that a sorcerer had killed them. Adelle told him no specifics and Tony didn’t push it, possibly because she had seen people die. Adelle went to bed and it was hunted by images of the men dyeing.

Adelle had a horrid night sleep, but she didn’t show it. It was Christmas Eve and she wasn’t going to be caught in a bad mood today. Some of her relatives where coming over this a noon, one family from her mother’s side and one from her father’s side. The house was going to be packed full of people, and the kid’s would have to sleep in the lounge room while the adults took the Adelle’s room and her brothers. Adelle’s brothers were going to sleep with Adelle’s dad for the time that the relatives where over because their mother was no longer there. Adelle was walking to the castle, her feet crunched in the snow. Everyone was giving her the look that they had been giving her for the past month, the ‘You’re a sorcerer, I’m scared of you’ look. Adelle wasn’t going to let it get her down, not today and not tomorrow! Adelle was just wondering how her family would react, they would of heard about it, and if they didn’t then they would know quite soon. Adelle sighed and pushed the thoughts out of her head.

It was mid-day, time to dust Lord Vile’s room, Adelle wasn’t sure if he was at lunch today or not, but Adelle didn’t want to confront him, not yet.  Adelle knocked on the door to his room but no one answered. Adelle waited a couple of seconds
“I’m coming in to clean” she said as she opened the door, no one was inside. Adelle let out a sigh of relief; she didn’t have to talk to him yet. Adelle started dusting the room and that was all she had to do. She was quickly getting around the room and was almost finished when the door opened and Lord Vile walked in. He looked at her for a couple of seconds then closed the door. Adelle walked up to Lord Vile
“I-I’m really sorry … about last night, I-I reacted before I knew what I was doing. And I’m sorry I’m, I, um, I should be used to it, I should of expected it, and” her face fell, “I should be used to all the death I mean it happens so often, but I guess it’s not till it’s right in front of you do you actually realise what it’s like, and, and, I’m sorry I though you where someone else, someone that wasn’t like the cold hearted killer that I’d hear about!” her eyes filled with tears and she ran out of the room.
“I’m sorry that you had to realise that just now, but that’s what I am” whispered Lord Vile, he felt a small piece of him leave with Adelle.

It was home time and Adelle was glade, she would be able to see some of her cousins, aunts and uncles. It was dark when she got home, but her house was warmly lit and voices of happiness could be heard from inside. Adelle unlocked the door and went inside.
“Hi everyone, how are you all” said Adelle with a smile, everyone froze then Aunty Trish moved forward and gave Adelle a hug.
“Oh my poor little girl what have all those men made you do, you poor little thing” said Trish, Aunty Trish was Tony’s sister and she never had any girl children, so she treated Adelle like her own daughter whenever she could. Adelle laughed
“I’m fine Aunty Trish, really!” said Adelle as she looked at Aunty Trish’s brown eyes. Aunty Trish was thin and medium height with brown arm-pit length hair.
“That’s good” said Aunty Trish as she held Adelle at arm’s length, “Now while we’re here Kath and I are going to cook for everyone, you and Susan can help if you want” Kath was Adelle’s other Aunty, from her mother’s side, Adelle wasn’t related to Kath, but she was still family and Susan was Kath’s daughter that was only a couple of years younger than Adelle. Kath was medium in height and weight, her hair was black and at shoulder length. Susan was slightly tall for her age and slender; she had blond hair with curls that stoped at the end of her shoulder blades.
“Oh really you don’t need to! I’ll manage to cook everyone there meals” lied Adelle
“Oh no you don’t we’re going to help you and that’s final!” said Aunty Trish with her hands on her hips, “And speaking of that we have some food cooking now so I best go check on it” said Aunty Trish as she walked to the kitchen section of the room.
“Hi Adelle” said Tom, he was tall and had a medium build he also had brown hair that flopped around his face. He was Susan’s older brother and he was a year older that Adelle, “You look … um”
“Older?” Adelle offered
“Ha yeah, we all do” replied Tom
“Who would of thought” said Adelle sarcastically
“Yeah, um so how’s life?” asked Tom, Adelle responded by arching an eyebrow as if to say ‘do you really want me to answer that?’, “Oh right sorry, I … um it hasn’t entirely … I mean I can’t believe that she gone”
“Yeah it is kind of hard to believe but after a while it finally registers” said Adelle quietly, in fact Adelle’s mum was leaving for a resistance base today, so Adelle was really never going to see her again.
“I’m going to walk away before I say something wrong again” said Tom then he shuffled off.

Adelle woke up on Christmas day to the sound of squawking children and Adelle looked to the clock above the mantel piece it was just past six. Well I slept in about five minutes more than usual! Adelle rolled over to see her most of her younger cousins and her brothers under the tree gathering the presents that where there’s. Adelle looked over to where Susan was sleeping and saw her lying there awake.
“Shall we start to make breakfast?” asked Adelle
“No” said Susan’s younger sister Alice her blond curls bobbing around her head, “We have to wake mummy and daddy up first!” all of the younger kids nodded or said an agreement.
“We can wake them up by the smell of bacon and eggs?” asked Adelle hopefully
“No” said the children together, Adelle sighed playfully
“Well I guess it would be good if your parents could help us make breakfast” said Adelle
“Yay!” said the kids a bit too loudly
Tom groaned “I think you’ve already woke them up” said Tom sleepily as he sat up from where he slept.
“Yeah that seems likely” said Susan
“We’re going to wake them up!” said Alice
“Yeah well I do like seeing mum and dad getting jumped on by us” said Tom
“Oh god, when we’re parents! Oh I’m going to get squashed!” said Susan
“Ohhhh” groaned Tom "don’t even bring that up! Let’s just stick with the squashing of our parents for now!”
“Agreed” Nodded Adelle as she sat up “Ok so whose parents are we going to squash first?” asked Adelle
“Mine, Mine!” said Alice
“Ok let’s go” said Tom. It was a bit of a tradition with Adelle’s family that all the kids would go and pile up on the parents to wake them up for Christmas. It’s said that Christmas was a day which celebrated a birthday of a significant figure in a major religion, no one really knows what it used to be or they just won’t tell. Now it’s a day that symbolise the day that the faceless ones will return to earth, and the giving of gifts represents the people of earth giving the possession of earth back to the faceless ones. The name stuck though, apparently it was too hard to rename it because everyone would just call it what it used to be, so the name Christmas stuck.

The day was going fast, which was sad because it was fun and Christmas was one of the only public holidays that mortals got the day off. It was just after dinner time and all the parents were talking, they could talk a lot when they wanted to. All of the younger kids where playing with their toys or reading the books that they got, Adelle and Susan where playing dolls with Alice because Alice practically begged them and Adelle probably wouldn’t see her for another six months. After a while Adelle stood up
“Where are you going Gammier is just getting her hair done you can’t leave yet!” said Alice
“I’m not leaving I’m just going to stretch my legs in the backyard for a few minutes then I’ll come back and play with you I promise” said Adelle
“Ok be back soon” said Alice then Adelle went to her room and grabbed her thick coat. Adelle lifted up a floor board from under her bed and pulled out a small box wrapped in cloth. She put the floor board back in place then went outside

Adelle walked outside into the cold Christmas night, Lord Vile wasn’t sure what she was doing out of the warm house, it was too cold outside even though she was wearing a thick coat she still looked cold. She turned and looked at him, he was surprised she noticed him, but with all the snow it might not have been that hard. He cocked his head and she did likewise then gestured for him to stand next to her and so he shadow walked. When he was standing next to her out of the sight of the window she talked.
“Merry Christmas. I know that you might not be a fan of Christmas considering you worship the faceless ones but ah yeah, it is Christmas so I thought I’d say it” her voice was soft and when she spoke clouds appears, her nose was turning pink from the cold, “Um I know I’ve already thanked you but yeah I still can’t express how much it means to me that you saved my mother! So I got you a Christmas present, it might not be much but it was the best I could do since most of our money goes to my brothers school fees or food. I hope you like it” she said as she handed him a slim white box with a dark blue ribbon on it.
“But I didn’t get you anything” said Lord Vile
“Ah don’t worry about it” She said with a smile on her face, “You didn’t even know that I was getting you one! And you have done so much for me and I have done nothing for you, and I still don’t get why you have done all this for me! But I’m not complaining” Adelle said now with a grin on her face, “Go on open it, it’s Christmas not Christmas eve” Lord Vile gently pulled at the ribbon then pulled of the lid. Inside was a Pen a wonderfully beautiful pen. It was black at the tip but had a gradual change in colour till it reached the top of the pen which was white. Lord Vile studied this pen for a bit when a voice broke his thoughts.
“Do you like it?” Adelle asked
“Yes it’s wonderful, thank you” said Lord Vile, Adelle now had a massive grin on her face and her cheeks where pink, most likely from the cold.
“ADELLE COME BACK INSIDE BEFORE YOU CATCH YOUR DEATH!” yelled an aunt from inside
“Well I best go, thank you for coming!” Adelle said before she walked back inside. Lord Vile watched her go back inside, Adelle you have done more than you know thought Lord Vile.
